Message from Clay

"It has been laid upon my heart and mind that we have the opportunities we have today because of some very large sacrifices made by others on our behalf. In reflecting upon this, I have rededicated myself to honoring these sacrifices by doing my best to make the most of the opportunities I have been given in every area of my life. This focus helps me to overcome whatever obstacles may be placed in my path. I encourage you this month to reflect upon the sacrifices that have been made on your behalf and to use this knowledge to help motivate you to achieve your dreams. Remember, if I can you can."

July’s Recap

Clay began July with a speaking engagement at the Family Fellowship Church in Greenville, Texas. Following this he was able to return home for a much-needed rest and some recreational fishing. He ended July with speaking engagements at the Conroe First Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas on July 27 and at the Calvary Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

August’s Outlook

Clay will begin the month at the FLW Tour Championship in Birmingham, Alabama. While there, Clay will conduct a seminar on flipping techniques to the crowd. Clay may also find a little time for some practice on Smith Lake. Clay will then review the 2007 Tour schedule and begin his pre-season preparation for those events.

On August 20th Clay will travel to North Little Rock for a speech to Friendly Chapel. On August 21st, Clay will practice on Beaver Lake, the site of one of next year’s FLW Tour events. On the 22nd, he will provide a motivational message to the employees of International Paper. On August 23rd, he will be back on Beaver Lake for some additional practice. Finally, Clay will finish the week by attempting to attend the BassMaster Major on the Arkansas River as an observer.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. I feel blessed and fortunate to have a few strengths. One of my strengths is an ability to encourage others through tough or trying situations that sometimes face us in life. I feel my strongest strength is probably being able to defeat adversity or obstacles that stand in the way of reaching my goals in my career and my life.

Q. What is your greatest weakness?

A.Ifeel like my weakness is probably managing my time to do all the things in life that I want to do.

Q. What is your "go-to" lure?

A. My lure of choice when the "pressure" is on is either a jig and crawfish imitation or crank bait. I really prefer the jig and crawfish because it just seems when you get a bite on a jig, they normally are larger fish.

If you have a question for Clay, please email it to qnawithclay@smgoutdoors.com and we will make sure it gets submitted to Clay. Needless to say, he will not be able to answer every question. He will, however, attempt to answer three or four representative questions each month.

Everyone who submits a question will be entered into a drawing to be held on December 31, 2006, for which the grand prize will be a day of fishing with Clay. The winner will be announced in the January, 2007 Team Dyer Newsletter.

Clay’s Inspiration from August

I have had the wonderful opportunity to pursue a career of professional angling for the last ten years. During this time I have witnessed so many things that have given me motivation and inspiration. While attending the FLW Championship in Birmingham, Alabama (Lake Logan Martin) and working one of the exhibit booths, I was approached for an autograph by a family whose young son was mentally challenged. As I signed the boy’s hat and tee shirt, he told me how he had followed me in the FLW and Stren Series tours the past few years. He expressed his desire to compete at that same level. As he was expressing his interest, it made me think how fortunate I am to compete on the professional tour and to live my dream. I know there is a chance this young man will never have that same opportunity, but if he does, I would be a huge fan! I just hope that as much as he inspires me, that I will be able to be there next season and perform to a higher level for him…

Clay’s Challenge for August

Please continue to pray for Clay’s safe travels and that he would continue to be a positive inspiration and role model for all with whom he comes into contact.

Thanks again for your support of Clay and your assistance in helping him to live his dream. Until next month….
