Message from Clay
This has been an incredible season and incredibly hectic with practice, competing, speaking engagements and public appearances. Your prayers, well wishes and encouragement, as well as the patience and support of my family, have given me the strength I need to complete another fantastic season. Remember, if I can, you can….

March and April Recap
Clay began the month of March with a wild game dinner at the First Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia, followed by another wild game dinner at the Camden First Baptist church in Camden, Tennessee. Later in March Clay fished in the FLW Series tournament on Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Alabama on March 26-27, and then fished in the FLW Tour event at Lewis Smith Lake in Jasper, Alabama April 3-6. Clay made time in his schedule to visit with military personnel participating in the “Warriors on the Water” fishing tournament at Ft. Bragg on April 16-18.

Outlook for May and June
For Clay the month of May will start with the FLW Tour tournament on Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas May 15-18. Following this, Clay will travel to Oklahoma for a speech on May 31 at the Salyer Lake Camp near Oklahoma City for the Southwest Oklahoma Men’s Ministry. On June 7 he will speak at the First Baptist Church in Serevan, Georgia. Following Clay’s participation in the FLW Tour tournament at Fort Loudown-Tellico Lakes in Knoxville, Tennessee on June 19-22, he will travel to Orlando, Florida to the Family Café (a Disney charitable organization) annual meeting keynote address. Clay will finish the month by traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina to deliver the keynote address at the E-Z-GO annual sales meeting.

Questions and Answers with Clay

Q. Will you try to compete in other sporting fields in the future?

A. I love being involved in football, basketball and baseball. I devote so much time to being as accomplished as I can in professional angling that I do not have much time left. I will continue to fish professionally and be a fan of the other sports and be at as many games as possible.

Q. Are you familiar with Neely-Henery Lake on the Coosa River in Gadsden, Alabama. If so, where is the best place to fish?

A. That is a very good lake with a lot of big spotted bass! That whole river is great! Some of the best areas are up river above the highway bridge just below Weiss Dam. Also the deep river ledges and docks along the deep banks around the Canoe Creek area are incredible when they generate current.

Q. With gas prices on the rise, is it affecting your fishing on the national tour?

A. It is very unfortunate that the prices are so high. To compensate, I operate my boat at slower speeds during practice to conserve fuel. Once the tournament begins, every minute that goes by that I do not have a lure in the water decreases my chances of catching a fish. So when I change places, I go as fast as I can safely so I will have every opportunity to catch the bass I need to weigh in a good limit.

If you have a question for Clay, please email it to info@smgoutdoors.com, and we will make sure it is submitted to Clay. Needless to say, he will not be able to answer every question. He will, however, attempt to answer three or four representative questions each month.

Everyone who submits a question will be entered into a drawing to be held on December 31, 2008, for which the grand prize will be a day of fishing with Clay. The winner will be announced in the January 2009 TeamDyer Newsletter.

Clay’s Inspiration for May and June
It is simply amazing how fast this FLW Tournament season has gone by. It seems like just yesterday I was in Kissimmee, Florida starting the first practice day of the 2008 season, and this past Sunday I returned from our last regular season tournament of 2008. It has been a fabulous year growing and adjusting to competing at the highest level of competition.

While I was in Trenton, Michigan last week practicing for the Chevy Open, I was idling through a canal leading to the launch ramp. As I was idling slowly up the canal returning after a day of practice, I observed many people sitting along the banks fishing with their lines going everywhere., and I was trying to avoid running over their lines. Several of these people came running up to my boat as I was docking it, and they were curious as to how I was able to make a career of being a full-time professional angler. They were very nice and complimentary and kept saying how they would love to have the chance to do what I do.
I could see the “longing” and even “regret” in their expressions. This made me even more thankful that I can live my DREAM and do what I LOVE to do so much

Clay’s Challenges for May and June
I want to thank all of you for all your prayers and thoughts. Please pray that my health and strength will continue to be strong as I continue my busy schedule for 2008. Thank you and God. Bless you all.
