Message from Clay

"Approach your goals in bite size chunks. Rome wasn’t built in one day. I’ve recently entered an exciting new chapter in my life. I now have the opportunity to compete at the top level of professional fishing. While my ultimate goal is to win a championship or angler-of-the-year crown, I know that that is still quite a way down the road. I also know that I have a lot to learn and a lot to improve upon before I will be a serious contender for a tour victory. However, I know that if I set my goals appropriately and work hard, I can accomplish that dream some day. For now, I am going to concentrate and work very hard on consistently catching and weighing-in 5 fish limits. I know that goad is within my grasp, and I also know that attaining it is a good first step toward reaching my ultimate goal. If you set your short-term goals too high, you run the risk of becoming discouraged. Discouragement is counterproductive for optimum performance. I hope this lesson will help you as much as it has helped me. Remember, if I can, you can."

April’s Recap

April was an unbelievable month for Clay. Clay started the month in Rogers, Arkansas preparing for the FLW Tour event on Beaver Lake. That Saturday, he flew to Eden, South Carolina, where he provided an inspirational message to the attendees at the YMCA’s annual dinner. Sunday, he provided the message to the congregation at Osborne Baptist Church. Immediately after the service, Clay returned to Beaver Lake to continue his preparations for the tournament. On the first day of the tournament, Clay accomplished his goal of weighing-in a five-fish limit. He fell a little short however on the second day. After the tournament on Beaver Lake, Clay traveled to Fayetteville, Georgia where he spoke at Heritage Christian Church. From there, Clay traveled to South Carolina for a Stren Series tournament on Lake Santee Cooper. Clay finished the month with a fun fishing tournament in Cleveland, Tennessee and speaking at a church service on Sunday morning.

Clay also received incredible media coverage in April. He appeared on CNN, ESPN’s Bass Center, and Fox Sports Net’s FLW Tour Coverage. Articles about Clay appeared in USA Today, the Baptist Standard, and the Rogers newspapers.

May’s Outlook

In addition to fishing in the FLW Tour tournament in Benton, Kentucky in May, Clay will travel to Clewiston, Florida, to speak to the Fishers of Men Group. He will then travel to Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lugoff, South Carolina, for a wild game dinner speaking engagement. He will leave Lugoff the following morning to travel to Ft. Hood to speak at the Fishin’ for Freedom event. Immediately following the tournament Clay will fly to Ormond Beach, Florida, to speak at a church service.

Clay’s Inspiration from April

This whole year for me has been such a blessing and I’ve had such great opportunities to travel and speak at incredible places. I had the opportunity to travel to Eden, NC and share my testimony at an area YMCA. During that event I met a man named Steve Paschal who was simply an example of what I think all of us should strive to be. This gentleman was such a determined, hard working and positive person who worked so diligently to accomplish whatever his job was although he had challenges; but to observe him you would not be aware of his circumstances. He simply did not want to draw attention to himself and be praised or "patted" on the back for his accomplishments. To see how determined he was to succeed without wanting or expecting awards or attention was truly remarkable and made me think about how many times we expect to be continually praised for something we do instead of being true servants.

Clay’s Challenge for May

Please continue to pray for Clay’s safe travels and that he would continue to be a positive inspiration and role model for all with whom he comes into contact.

Thanks again for your support of Clay and your assistance in helping him to live his dream. Until next month….
