Message from Clay

I am honored to have been chosen as the National Spokesperson for C.A.S.T. for Kids. For those of you who don’t know, C.A.S.T. is a national organization whose primary purpose is to provide disabled and disadvantaged children with a quality outdoor recreational experience as well as increasing the awareness of all participants to the capabilities of children with disabilities. I was first introduced to fishing through an activity similar to those conducted by C.A.S.T. I doubt anybody associated with my first fishing experience ever dreamed that it would lead me to where I am today. That’s the amazing thing about these programs. One very small seemingly insignificant act can create a spark that leads to a massive fire. As I serve my role as a spokesperson for C.A.S.T., I will be encouraging everyone I meet to get involved with introducing children, especially those who are disadvantaged or disabled, to the great sport of fishing. As I am living proof of, you never know where it might lead. Remember, if I can you can.

August’s Recap

Clay started August by conducting a seminar on flipping techniques to the crowd during the FLW Tour in Birmingham, Alabama. Clay then went to Smith Lake to assist one of his FLW Tour colleagues in preparing for a tournament there. On August 20th Clay traveled to North Little Rock for a speech to the members of Friendly Chapel. Friendly Chapel has become a regular stop for Clay, and he enjoys the friendship and hospitality of the members of Friendly Chapel. Following this, he traveled to the Red Apple Inn Resort northeast of Little Rock where he gave a motivational message to the employees of International Paper on August 22nd.  Clay took advantage of his time in Little Rock by spending two half days on Lake Dardanelle becoming familiar with the lake as he will have a FLW Series event there next year. Additionally, Elite Series Pro Brent Chapman was kind enough to let Clay ride with him and observe his preparation and practice for the BassMaster Major on the Arkansas River. Thanks, Brent, Clay really appreciates your encouraging words and assistance, and he enjoyed spending a couple of days with you.

September Outlook

Clay plans to spend some time this month fishing in preparation for the upcoming tour events. He will begin the month by speaking on September 3 to members of the Auburn Heights Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama. Clay will then travel to Houma, Louisiana, where he will speak at a men’s dinner on September 16 and then speak at three church services on September 17. After the 17 Clay will travel to Dallas for some business matters and a speech to the members of the First United Methodist Church in Frisco, Texas. Clay will then travel to Tulsa where he will provide a motivational speech to the employees of Lowrance Electronics, one of Clay’s primary sponsors.

Question and Answer with Clay

Q. Do you think you will ever fish the BassMaster trail?

A. I would definitely like to fish the BassMaster Tour. BASS is a great organization and hopefully an opportunity will present itself that will allow me to also compete on that tour.

Q. Do you ever get to just go out and fish for fun?

A. Yes. I fun fish as much as possible. I absolutely love to fish whether I am practicing or competing. Additionally, as often as my schedule permits, I love taking kids bream or crappie fishing.

These questions came with a very kind message of support. To the gentleman that submitted the questions for this month’s Newsletter, you are correct, my circumstance could have gotten me down, but I knew God blessed me with an opportunity and I’m going to make the best of it.

If you have a question for Clay, please email it to qnawithclay@smgoutdoors.com and we will make sure it gets submitted to Clay. Needless to say, he will not be able to answer every question. He will, however, attempt to answer three or four representative questions each month.

Everyone who submits a question will be entered into a drawing to be held on December 31, 2006, for which the grand prize will be a day of fishing with Clay. The winner will be announced in the January 2007 Team Dyer Newsletter.

Clay's inspiration for September

I am incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful family, career and many other things in life. This month I spoke at a church in Phenix City, Alabama. While I was at the church, I had an opportunity to pray with a person who was facing some struggles. As I was praying with that person, I was inspired by how bold and brave that person was to come to me and express their heartfelt burdens and feelings. After we prayed, I thought about the struggles I endured while climbing through the levels of my mission field to get my career where it is today - from working to gain knowledge to working through my own obstacles to accomplish my dreams and goals. I want to challenge and encourage you that no matter what obstacles might be standing in the way of your goals, just keep a positive attitude and believe in yourself and work hard to see your obstacles overcome.

Clay’s Challenges for September

Please continue to pray for Clay’s safe travels and that he would continue to be a positive inspiration and role model for all with whom he comes into contact.
