Seven anglers who finished among the Top 10 at the November 2006 FLW Series tournament at Lewis Smith Lake will compete this week in the FLW Tour event at the Alabama impoundment. Texan Sean Hoernke (right) won in '06 with an average of less than 9 1/2 pounds a day.
Others from the '06 Top 10 who are back are David Fritts (4th), Gary Yamamoto (6th), Craig Powers (7th), Jim Moynagh (8th), Matt Herren (9th) and Keith Monson (10th). Jeff Shelton, the runner-up in '06, was a late local entrant, 3rd-place finisher Gerald Swindle is a Bassmaster Elite Series angler who jackpotted that event, and 5th-place finisher Rusty Salewske now fishes only the Western FLW Series.
Most of the returnees are in need of a bounce-back outing – Hoernke was the only one of the seven who cashed a four-figure check at the Tour's season opener at Toho, and that was for $2,000 (74th place). Fritts was 156th at Toho, Yamamoto 163rd, Powers 174th, Moynagh 168th, Herren 125th and Monson 99th (good for $100).
